The Tanneries is located to the east of Bermondsey Street and south of the railway line. The site comprises of predominantly late 19th century industrial buildings clustered around courtyards. The site - and even certain of the present buildings - housed tanneries and furriers in the 18th century and probably long before.
The present buildings were constructed predominantly in the period during which the tanning of hides in the Bermondsey area was giving way to trading and processing of hides.
The site presently caters various creative and well-being industries.
